Exhibition The Infinite Place of Light, a tribute to the life and work of master Manuel Cargaleiro
Starting September 28th at the Manuel Cargaleiro Arts Workshop
Next Sunday, September 28th, at 6 pm, the exhibition “The Infinite Place of Light” will open, created with the collection that master Manuel Cargaleiro donated to the Municipality of Seixal.
This exhibition presents a collection of previously unseen works, including some of his most recent artistic production, as well as works belonging to the Manuel Cargaleiro Foundation, and the joint work by the master and Vhils, a visual artist born in the municipality of Seixal. The exhibition also offers a space that will be permanently installed at the Manuel Cargaleiro Arts Workshop, a reimagining of the master’s studio at Quinta da Silveira de Baixo, in Almada, where Cargaleiro lived and worked when he came to Portugal.
The exhibition will integrate different dimensions and time periods of artist Manuel Cargaleiro’s creative process and showcase his significant role as a collector.
The Seixal City Hall is extremely proud and delighted to see the master’s recognition of the municipality by donating part of his collection, first during his lifetime and later in his will. This exhibition is a result of this donation and is committed to promoting his work and his workspace, sharing his genius with all who visit. It is worth noting that the exhibition venue is also a tribute in itself, with the Manuel Cargaleiro Art Workshop, a contemporary art space designed by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, opened in 2016, located in Quinta da Fidalga, Seixal.

Manuel Alves Cargaleiro, painter and ceramist, was a global artist with deep roots in Portugal and France, where he lived for over 60 years. He passed away on June 30, 2024, at the age of 97. The exhibition The Infinite Place of Light is a way to continue the work of master Cargaleiro, reinforcing his transformative social role and, above all, perpetuating his absolute generosity.
