Extramuralhas Festival takes 14 bands to Leiria and Batalha Monastery

The tenth edition of the Extramuralhas festival, which takes place between today and Saturday, in Leiria and, for the first time, at Batalha Monastery, brings together 14 bands in a poster that opens today with the Italians Ashram.

Also today, in Leiria, Skáld (France) plays at the José Lúcio da Silva Theater in Leiria, and Actors (Canada) at Stereogun.

On Friday, there are concerts by the French Les Fragments de la Nuit at the Leiria Museum, Test Dept (England) and Siglo XX (Belgium) at the Jose Lucio da Silva Theater, Henric de la Cour (Sweden) and Light Asylum (United States). da América), at Jardim Luís de Camões, and The Lust Syndicate (Italy), at Stereogun.

“With the Leiria Castle in the works and the consequent passage of the festival Entremuralhas para Extramuralhas”, taking place for the second year in the center of Leiria, “we were orphaned, albeit circumstantially, from the place that gave the epithet of ‘festival’. Gothic ‘to our event “, explains the president of the association Fade In, Carlos Matos, responsible for the organization, in conjunction with the Municipality of Leiria.

The Batalha Monastery, “the greatest example of Gothic architecture in the central region, and the opening scene, once again legitimizes the event’s name”, anticipating Carlos Matos a show “as idyllic as the place that welcomes it”.

At the tenth edition, the organizer highlights Entremuralhas / Extramuralhas’ path: “It’s a story of change and new paradigms. We helped people relate to the ‘new’ and the ‘different’ in a natural way. This is still more significant and relevant if we consider that Leiria had, until recently, the ‘stigma’ of being too conservative a city “.

The Gothic festival has made the city “avant-garde, tolerant, inventive, aesthetic, bold, participative and with a healthy margin of irreverence”, calling Leiria visitors from all over the world.

For Carlos Matos Entremuralhas / Extramuralhas has been “an extraordinary story”, also because it has allowed “to make a ‘just’ festival with bands and artists we are fans of,” and “they don’t see themselves anywhere else in Portugal ”

In the early years concentrated in Castelo de Leiria, with a capacity of 737 spectators per day, the event quickly became an international reference.

“We knew we had enough arguments to be a cult or niche festival. The projection and success that our festival has had since its first edition is mainly due to the set of singularities that characterize it. , fills us with pride! “said Carlos Matos.
