A flute narrates the story, through the music of Frederico de Freitas. We start from the collaborations of this composer with cinema, from A Severa to Amália Rodrigues in Fado, História d’uma Cantadeira. Finally, we hear an excerpt from this composer’s flute concerto, in a performance that links traditional and erudite elements of Freitas’ work.
Adriana Ferreira, flute
Principal flutist of the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecília in Rome, Adriana Ferreira occupied the same place in the Philharmonic Orchestra of Rotterdam and was co-principal flutist of the National Orchestra of France. Winner of several international competitions, she won 1st prize at the Carl Nielsen International Competition in Denmark; 3rd Prize at the Kobe Competition in Japan; 1st Prize at the Severino Gazzelloni Competition in Italy; and 2nd Prize ex-æquo (1st not awarded) as well as Prize Coup de Cœur Breguet at the Geneva Competition in Switzerland. In a duo with pianist Isolda Crespi Rubio, she recorded two CDs (Numérica, Falaut) followed by a solo CD with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra (La dolce volta). As the first guest flute, she collaborates with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Teatro alla Scala Orchestra of Milan, Les Dissonances, and Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others. Born in Cabeceiras de Basto, Adriana Ferreira studied flute at the Escola Profissional Artística do Vale do Ave – Artave, in the class of teacher Joaquina Mota. With a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, she joined the class of Sophie Cherrier and Vincent Lucas at the Conservatório Nacional Superior de Música in Paris, where she completed the three higher cycles. She also studied with Benoît Fromanger in Berlin and has a degree in Musicology from the Paris-Sorbonne University. In 2015, she obtained the Medal of Public Merit-Gold Grade from the Municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto.
