Fado and jazz meet in June

Tivoli BBVA Theater

Fado singer Cristina Branco and pianist Mário Laginha will recreate what they presented in 2019 with the prestigious Big Band on Rádio Frankfurt. The concert will be accompanied by the Hot Clube Portugal Orchestra.

On June 3, at Teatro Tivoli BBVA, the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz Orchestra joins Mário Laginha and Cristina Branco, who gives voice to ‘Perto‘, an unprecedented concert that combines the emotions of fado with the freedom of jazz.

Mário Laginha, an internationally renowned Portuguese pianist, will once again accompany fado singer Cristina Branco in an intimate concert, just like in 2019, when the Portuguese duo presented “Fado and More” with the prestigious Big Band on Rádio Frankfurt.

Already in Portuguese lands, where fado has roots and its own emotion, the duo of artists shares the stage with the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz Orchestra, introducing the Portuguese to musical synergies as well as a new interpretation of the traditional expression of fado.

The sounds of fado and jazz are, in this way, closer than ever. Fado, traditionally accompanied by Portuguese guitar, is performed at the Tivoli BBVA Theater with a universal character, fusing the rhythms of jazz with the piano and wind instruments, so characteristic of jazz.

Thus, the musical arrangements of 2019 gain new rhythms in ‘Perto‘, under the direction of Pedro Moreira, who will guide the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz Orchestra in an unprecedented concert, in which the virtuoso rhythm of jazz intertwines with a melancholic voice of fado.

Tickets for ‘Perto’ are now on sale at Ticketline and the usual locations.
