Two projects from the University of Coimbra (UC), focused on making educational resources available and producing and disseminating more scientific knowledge about the Holocaust, have just obtained funding from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he “MemoMarranos” and “The Holocaust in Portuguese: a dynamic repository of educational resources” projects, lasting one year, were approved to receive funding within the scope of special support for research and development (R&D) projects on the topic “Portugal and the Holocaust: research and memory”, support included in “Nunca Esquecer”– National Program around the Holocaust Memory.
The “MemoMarranos” project is led by João Paulo Avelãs Nunes, a researcher at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century (CEIS20) and professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra (FLUC), and is part of a process of consolidating a network international group of researchers and institutions that produce and disseminate knowledge about Jews, “Marranos”, anti-Semitism and the Holocaust.
In general, this project, which obtained 34 thousand euros of funding, aims to «identify the relevant documentation for the production and dissemination of more scientific knowledge about evolution, from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day – with emphasis on the 1930s and for the period of the Holocaust – of the Portuguese classifiable as “Marranos”», says João Paulo Avelãs Nunes.
