Spring Festival celebrates the beginning of the season focused on biodiversity
Today and Sunday, on Penha Mountain, in Guimarães
It is already today that Guimarães welcomes the new season with another Spring Festival, which this year has biodiversity as its central theme.
Until Sunday, the initiative goes up to the Penha Mountain with a diverse set of free activities for all ages, in order to connect the community to nature and raise awareness of the importance of environmental preservation.
Promoted by the Landscape Laboratory, with the collaboration of the municipality of Guimarães, the Brotherhood of Penha and the Urbact BiodiverCity network, the event presents a program full of initiatives, including concerts, creative workshops, interpretive pathways, environmental education activities, exhibitions and traditional games.
A weekend of music and activities dedicated to nature
During the weekend, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy concerts and exhibitions as well as to participate in creative workshops, environmental education activities and traditional games. In music, the performances of Maria João Soares, André Ferreira, Mário Correia and Francisco Reis stand out, as well as a sunset with DJ Tiago TT and a performance of the Flávia Portes Dance School. The literature will also be present at the sessions of Hora do Conto, promoted by the Raul Brandão Library.
The Spring Festival also invites the public to participate in various workshops and workshops, such as the construction of nest boxes for birds and shelters for bats, the construction of terrariums, drawing and botanical painting activities, as well as the learning of traditional techniques, such as the clay workshop and the straw workshop. Visitors can also know the eco market, the thematic exhibitions on biodiversity and interactive spaces, with the presence of entities dedicated to environmental awareness, such as Vimagua, Vitrus, Resinorte, the Portuguese Red Cross and Like Science.
For the more adventurous, there will be routes guided by the Penha Mountain, where you can discover the fauna and flora of the region, contemplating the natural and cultural richness.
The Spring Festival promises an animated weekend full of color, music and learning opportunities, inviting the population to “heat” in this early season. Entry is free, and the full program can be found here.
As the European Green Capital 2026, the municipality of Guimarães reaffirms, through another event, its commitment to biodiversity and sustainability, highlighting the importance of environmental preservation.
