April festivities countdown to “Variações sobre Paredes”
It is next Sunday, the 27th, starting at 7 pm, at Praça do Município, that we celebrate Carlos Paredes.
In the concert “Variações sobre Paredes”, seven musicians will revisit unforgettable compositions by the master of the Portuguese guitar. The line-up includes, among others, themes such as “Canto de Rua”, “Serenata do Tejo”, “Variações” (in A Minor and D Minor), “Despertares” and “Verdes Anos”.
With artistic direction by António Miguel Guimarães and musical direction by Pedro Jóia, the show will feature Joana Bagulho on the harpsichord, João Paulo Esteves da Silva on the piano, José Manuel Neto and Bruno Costa on the Portuguese guitar, Pedro Jóia on the classical guitar and with the special participation of Carlos Manuel Proença and Nuno Botelho on the viola. At the same time, visual artist António Jorge Gonçalves will draw, live, images that will be projected onto a large screen.
On the 51st anniversary of the 25th of April and the centenary of the birth of Carlos Paredes, the city of Lisbon pays tribute, with this show, to the artist who fought for Freedom and composed about his people.
