Festival A Estrada from 9th to 13th of August

After the very successful first edition, held from September 8 to 12, 2021, which earned the Festival A Estrada the “Best New Festival – National Winner” award at the Iberian Festival Awards, this year the second edition takes place from 9 to 13 August, consolidating last year’s proposal and aiming to reach new audiences.

The original and pertinent concept of the Festival A Estrada proposes experiencing and discovering the territory between the village of São Francisco da Serra and the beach of Costa de Santo André, in the Municipality of Santiago do Cacém, along the municipal road 544 and its ramifications that make part of the Lagoas de Santo André and Sancha Natural Reserve. Through a multidisciplinary and itinerant cultural program, structured on several stages integrated into the landscape and the environment of the places that host them, highlighting the region’s potential associated with nature tourism, its wonderful coast, the countryside-beach binomial, products of the local gastronomy and the quality of its people, traditions and culture.

The reason for choosing the festival date (as it was supposed to have happened last year, which was not possible because of Covid), is related to the collective memory of the Festa de São Romão, celebrated on August 9, the day in which the entire mountain population traveled to the beach of Costa de Santo André for the annual bathing in the sea. This tradition, a catalyst for an entire population on the move, registered in the paths that cross the Serra de São Francisco to the sea and in the character of the territory and its people, now finds its contemporary equivalence and descent in the A Estrada Festival. Anchored in this memory and in this authentic and genuine relationship with the territory, Festival A Estrada is the catalyst event of the cultural and scenic character of an entire region.

In 2022, the A Estrada Festival will once again run through its four stages, over five days: the first two days, August 9 and 10, take place at Palco Serra, in São Francisco da Serra, the third day, August 11, on Stage Estrada, in Lugar do Farrobo, next to Café Pinhal Novo, the fourth day, 12 August, on Stage Lagoa and finally the fifth day, 13 August, on Stage Praia, in the area of the Beach Lounge / Lagoa concession the sea. At the same time, on a new stage – the Floresta Stage  – every morning the festival will start another day with special activities, Alente(y)joga (Alentejo yoga) classes, and the possibility of attending and participating in various artistic and musical activities, such as an orchestra of the moment, proposed by Junior (founder of Terrakota), focusing on the body-nature-sound relationship. These activities on Palco Floresta have access reserved for a very limited number of people (10), upon prior payment of registration, and then, for those who want to come just for the musical activities, 20 more places. This year the Festival has a set of stages, concerts, and paid activities, alternating with other stages, concerts, and free entry activities.
