A Porta Festival takes place from June 2nd to 8th, in Leiria
The 10th edition reopens the doors of Rua Direita and Villa Portela, among others that have marked the history of the Festival.
What paths are drawn through these streets? This is the starting point for this year’s organization of the A Porta Festival, which celebrates its 10th edition from June 2nd to 8th, returning to Rua Direita. The emblematic artery of the historic center of Leiria, which has been a privileged place for intervention through art, an identity of the Festival, once again has a prominent place in this special edition.
“What paths are drawn through these streets? It is the motto for reflection on what Rua Direita and the Historic Center of Leiria were and what they have become, after 10 editions opening doors, drawing attention to their most emerging needs and revealing their immense potential”, considers the organization.
“And the return to the historic center would not make sense without the A Porta Festival once again intervening in places whose history intersects with that of the festival itself.” This is the case of Atlas restaurant-bar, which celebrates 10 years of existence this year and which was set up in the space that was the first Casa Plástica, a collective gallery, at A Porta.
A Porta will also reopen the old and inactive Youth Hostel to the public, “in a context of reflection and consultation with the public on how that space can serve the community and respond to the need to expand the services of the adjacent Leiria Municipal Library”.
The 2025 edition of A Porta also brings back Casa Plástica in a different format in which the collective exhibition of visual arts is spread across several locations instead of being condensed into a single space, as was usual.
The Feira Bandida, spread throughout the streets, children’s and youth activities and educational services, music, themed dinners in private homes, surprise experiences from TransPORTA-te and, of course, the opening of new doors are also back on the programme in this 10th edition.
Return to Villa Portela
The shows on the nights of Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th will take place in the renovated Villa Portela, which is preparing to make way for the much-desired Villa Portela Arts Center. It will be a new cultural facility in the city, focusing on contemporary art and scheduled to open in May.
Some of the biggest names on A Porta’s musical lineup will be performing there, full of great surprises, which will be announced very soon.
Also worth highlighting is one of the most popular days with the public, the closing Sunday, which this year will also take place in the gardens of Villa Portela, where it is expected to see entire families once again with blankets spread out, side by side with the “professional” festival-goers, on a day for everyone and for everyone.
