Angrajazz Festival returns in October
The 22nd edition of the festival was postponed in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic, being resumed on October 1st, 2nd and 4th, 2021.
With a budget of 110 thousand euros, similar to previous editions, Angrajazz will have a smaller capacity, to comply with the rules of the health authorities, estimating to drop from the usual 560 places to a number between 300 and 350.
As is traditional, the Angrajazz orchestra, composed of local musicians, opens the festival this year with a concert celebrating the 130th anniversary of the birth of Cole Porter, with arrangements by Zé Eduardo.
The first night also features the trio of pianist Vincent Meissner, a very young trio, with musicians in their 20s, who released their first album this year and had great references and critical praise.
The second day of the festival opens with the Portuguese quintet of Jeffrey Davis, vibraphonist born in Canada, who moved to Portugal when he was 4 years old.
From the United States arrives the quartet of saxophonist Don Braden, accompanied by singer Trineice Robinson, who at the age of 40 released his first album, despite a long career, dedicated mainly to teaching.
The last night will also be marked by North American jazz, with the trio of Bill Frisell, which the organization confessed to trying to bring to the Azores for over a decade.
The festival ends with the decathed American Anat Cohen.
In addition to paid concerts, with prices between 5 and 20 euros per day, the festival will have nine free shows in venues to be announced in the historic center of Angra do Heroísmo, with three local groups and one composed of national musicians, between 24th of September and October 2nd.
