Simulacrum
Carminda Soares & Margarida Monteny
CCB. 17 AND 18 MAY. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. 21H00 . BLACK BOX
Simulacrum is an exercise in intimacy, repetition, and endurance. Two bodies in continuous action explore the limits of their proximity through the degenerative nature of the gesture. A diffuse space is created between the real and the staged, between the public and the private, enhancing states of vulnerability, expectation and tension. The simulacrum is part of a set of actions and gestures present in the daily life of the two performers, crossed by fragments of shared memories, in a slow exercise of transformation of bodies and their impulses.
Carminda Soares is a dancer and creator. She has worked professionally with Victor Hugo Pontes, Eduardo Torroja, Sarah Friedland, Ballet Contemporâneo do Norte, Catarina Miranda, Marianela Boán, and Gonçalo Lamas, among others. As a creator, she highlights It’s a long yesterday, created in partnership with Maria R. Soares; and his solo project Light on Light. She has a master’s degree in Theory of Literature and Lusophone Literature from the University of Minho.

A pile of stones, a smoke machine, and a microphone. The sound. The breath. A confession.
«What can a body do?» What body is this we’ve been chasing? What manifest body have we been trying to enunciate?
The search for a sensitive reason, a thinking body, and other forms of lucidity that are based on new balances between the sensorial and rational dimensions are lines of work that we want to deepen. We are looking for new grammars of sensibility, for the «wild intelligence of bodies», for the ground-based body that reflects ancestral and unknown memories.
«The body has geometry and shapes that no one hears», and it is in ecstasy that we discover a dry effervescence, the sound of cracking stone, traces of illuminated plants, the yawning of animals…
«It is through the womb that silence must begin».
In Feedback, the sound captured and manipulated live is the track chosen to investigate in new detail.
The invisible element that promotes the shuffling between the inside and the outside, designing spaces with nothing and moving us from the inside to the guts, the variation of places that can be visited with a microphone is incredible.
In Feedback, we look for the meeting point between confessional memory and the topics of a framework of key ideas that we have been trying to map. The air, listening, the expansion of microperceptions, the dilation of time, the reversal of the skin, the evocation of a primitive time, and the tension between the ancestor and technology. The rawness, the truth, everything stripped down to the essentials: the body, the origin of the sound, the technique, the material.
