DDD Festival returns in digital and in-person formats and enshrines dance with a focus on national artists

The edition of DDD – Festival Dias da Dança of 2021 kicks off next April 20, with a total of 22 shows and an exhibition project, 16 of which are an international or national premiere. Of the 11 co-productions, six are by artists who work from the North Region.

Focus on national artists is central” and Rui Moreira addressed words of thanks and recognition “for the enormous spirit of resistance, resilience and adaptability”.

The program for the fifth edition of DDD, which enshrines dance in a sharing between digital and in-person formats, was presented last Thursday in a press conference by videoconference, from the Teatro Municipal do Porto – Rivoli. A faithful portrait of the current circumstances, which also reflects the vicissitudes that the Festival Dias da Dança had to face.

The cancellation of last year’s edition of the DDD left marks. Above all, and above all, it left marks on artists and companies“, considered the Mayor of Porto. Therefore, “regardless of the existing conditions and challenges – and even with the necessary adaptations – the DDD this year had to happen”, he declared.

Thus, between April 20 and 30, the DDD – No Palco/Em Casa returns in an online format and to the main concert halls in the cities of Porto, Gaia, Matosinhos, and, for the first time, Viana do Castelo, in an edition which has the patronage of BPI and the “la Caixa” Foundation.

The vast majority of projects were possible to maintain, stressed Rui Moreira, referring only as an exception to the training program and several international projects, which will be presented online, or projects developed with the non-professional community.

In the face-to-face aspect, we were able to ensure that nine shows were presented to the public, most of which were also broadcast online, and an exhibition project, all of them by national artists“, clarified the mayor, informing that this edition was reinvented “in record time”. The statements were made from the stage of the Grand Auditorium Manoel de Oliveira, of the Rivoli Theater, which she shared with the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, the Councilor for Culture of the Chamber of Gaia, Paula Carvalhal, Ana Feijó Cunha, representative of the BPI / Fundação “La Caixa”, and with Tiago Guedes, artistic director of the Municipal Theater of Porto.
