Sintra festival with musical itinerary by the palaces

The Sintra Festival is back and brings with it many novelties, including magnificent concerts linked to the cinema cycle, both exceptional and timeless.

The Palaces of Sintra will host, during the ten days of the Festival, absolutely dazzling concerts, including the Duel of Pianists and recitals that extend into the night and that combine the rich material heritage and privileged natural places.

The itinerary of concerts through the Palaces starts at the National Palace of Queluz, along with the first day of the Sintra Festival. Thus, at 6.30 pm, on the 15th of June, the concert “Funchal em Londres – Concerti Grossi”, by António Pereira da Costa accompanied by the Ensemble Bonne Corde, will take place and will bring together a concert and a CD release.

On the 16th of June, the concert by Angélica Salvi arrives at the Music Room of the Palace of Queluz, at 11 pm. Spanish harpist Angélica Salvi’s music is situated between memory, familiarity, and relationships.

The Swan Room of the National Palace of Sintra will be the stage for Joana Gama’s concert “The Book of Sounds”, by Hans Otte, on June 19th at 11:00 pm. At the piano, Joana Gama amazes new audiences. “The Book of Sounds” is a life-size lesson: in repetition it unveils an invitation to introspection, in minimalism it shows the simplicity of artistic forms.

The following day, June 20, at 6:30 pm, a concert by João Barradas arrives at the beautiful Monserrate Palace. The program presents works by Rachmaninoff, whose repertoire was initially designed for piano, now takes on a new color in the accordion, opening doors to a different timbric universe with the richness that João Barradas has accustomed us to throughout his prestigious career.

The Duelo de Pianistas, already sold out, at Seteais Palace, marks the agenda for the 20th of June. The talented artists Raúl da Costa and Vasco Dantas put themselves to the test, in an epic duel between two of the most renowned Portuguese pianists, determining who is the most agile and skillful in the technique of this instrument.

On the night of the 21st of June, the Sintra National Palace receives the Accord Quartet. In this concert, the Accord Quartet presents a program that addresses György Ligeti’s relationship with the music of Béla Bartók.

The National Palace of Sintra will once again host the Sintra Festival on June 22, at 9.30 pm, with Voices of Bronze: The Songbook by Carlos Gardel, in a concert by Jonatan Alvarado and guests. This concert presents a collection of songs from the album “Voces de Bronce”, dedicated to Argentine popular music from the first half of the 20th century.

The itinerary of concerts in the palaces ends at 21:30 on the 23rd of June with Stravaganza: Arias for Castrato, at the National Palace of Queluz. The program presented is inspired by a historical moment involving those who would have been the most famous castrati: Francesco Bernardi — ‘Senesino’ and Carlo Broschi — ‘Farinelli’.

The 57th Sintra Festival, this year under the artistic direction of Martim Sousa Tavares, is organized by the Municipality of Sintra and takes place from the 15th to the 25th of June with a varied program that offers concerts, cinema, dance, shows for families and childhood, lectures, workshops, and other formats.
