Festival of May 2025

At a time when we are witnessing the advance of authoritarian populism and drifts around the world, and when the agenda is to misinformation – especially through the spread of false news – it is urgent to intervene, inform and awaken consciences; as Zeca said: “What is needed is to warn the people”.

The arts, especially music, play a fundamental role in the clarification and mobilization of citizens and in the pursuit of ideals that lead to more solidarity, more evolved and fairer societies. In this sense, the Municipal Council of Seixal, with the curatorship of the musician Luis Varatojo, presents, on 30 and 31 May 2025, in the Municipal Park of Seixal, the 6th edition of the FESTIVAL DO MAY.

This year we bet, for the first time, on a day entirely dedicated to rock; it is justified, with the Xutos & Pontapés marking the 40 years of the mythical album CERCO (a show specially designed for the festival) and two other great national rock bands, Mão Morta and Linda Martini, with new albums in the luggage. On the second day, the Seixal Urban Park is filled with tropical sounds – afrobeat, mpb, reggae and hip hop – by Capicua’s activist voices (with a brand-new album), Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, also with newly edited disc, and Criolo, a great figure of Brazilian music and culture today.
