Portuguese Wine Festival and National Pera Rocha Fair in Bombarral
Celebration of Pera Rocha do Oeste and Portuguese Wine from August 13th to 18th
The Western region of Portugal once again brings together two of its greatest icons, wine and Pera Rocha do Oeste, at the Portuguese Wine Festival and Pera Rocha National Fair, which takes place from the 13th to the 18th of August in the Bombarral National Forest.
This event, which is one of the oldest in the region, brings together more than 90 exhibitors and celebrates the tradition and quality of Western products, offering visitors the opportunity, for six days, to taste the best wines, enjoy the most popular Rocha pear different ways while attending concerts by renowned artists in the Portuguese music scene.
The National Association of Pera Rocha do Oeste Producers, a partner in organizing the event, highlights that this event marks the beginning of the Pera Rocha collection campaign, a crucial period for the region that involves more than 15 thousand people. Pera Rocha, a symbol of the West region, has elevated Portugal to the position of one of the main pear producers in Europe. Exports of this fruit generate revenue of around 85 million euros annually, reflecting the growing international demand for Pera Rocha. In the 2022/2023 harvest, Pera Rocha was exported to 20 countries, with emphasis on Europe (50%), Morocco (20%) and Brazil (20%) as the main destinations.
The association’s presence at the event, through “Espaço Pera”, will allow visitors to better understand this unique fruit, with a diverse offer that includes music on the Melro Stage, activities and tasting of Pera Rocha and Pera Rocha-based products.
The inauguration ceremony of the 39th Portuguese Wine Festival and 29th National Pera Rocha Fair, which takes place on August 13th at 5 pm, will be attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, José Manuel Fernandes, and the Secretary of State for Administration Location and Spatial Planning, Hernâni Dias, highlighting the relevance of this event for agriculture and the national economy.

During the six-day event, the Bombarral National Forest will host a diverse set of activities, including wine tasting and culinary presentations that highlight Pera Rocha as the main ingredient. The “Gourmet Space” will have guest chefs who will explore the versatility of Pera Rocha in different dishes, both sweet and savoury, promoting gastronomic innovation using local products.
The event is not just restricted to adults. Families will have a children’s area available with various activities, including the “Mini Chefs” workshop, where children can learn how to cook sweets using Pera Rocha. Furthermore, at “Espaço Pera”, Caixa Agrícola do Bombarral, sponsor of the event, will promote a financial literacy session for children, connecting education to the event experience.
Another highlight will be the “Wine & Pear Party”, which will take place on August 17th, a unique celebration that combines the best of wine and Pera Rocha, promoted by the Rotary Club of Bombarral. This event is a vibrant showcase of local culture, where music, wine and Pera Rocha come together to offer a unique experience to visitors.
Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase a reusable glass for 3.00 euros to participate in wine tastings, where they will be able to taste the best wines from various wine regions in the country. This year, of the approximately 90 exhibitors, 25 will be dedicated to the wine sector, highlighting the diversity and quality of Portuguese wines.
The Portuguese Wine Festival and Pera Rocha National Fair promises to be a memorable event, where tradition, innovation and culture meet, celebrating the richness of products from the Western region of Portugal.
