On September 28th, at 7 pm, CaixaForum Barcelona will host a performance by the Alvorada Trio, part of the Fado Barcelona Festival 2025 program—an evening that will pay tribute to the immortal legacy of Carlos Paredes, a fundamental figure in Portuguese music and the undisputed master of the Portuguese guitar.
In this edition, marked by Paredes’ centennial, the Alvorada Trio—composed of António Moreira and Ricardo Dias (zither player from Coimbra) and Pedro Lopes (guitar player)—invites us on a musical journey through Coimbra’s most emblematic places linked to the artist’s life and work. From the Quebra-Costas steps, where the Paredes family lived and Carlos was born, the program includes compositions by Carlos and Artur Paredes that evoke the city’s memory and sentimental geography.
Barcelona joins the celebration of the 8th edition of the International Fado Festival, which honours Carlos Paredes’ 100th birthday with a program that combines tradition, history, and modernity.
A musical trio that has distinguished itself with its unique and moving focus on the music of Carlos Paredes. Through interpretations of songs by Carlos and Artur Paredes, they invite the audience on a journey through the geographical spaces that inspired Paredes’ work in Coimbra. Their music evokes the nostalgia and beauty of Portuguese landscapes, and their passionate and virtuoso playing of the Portuguese guitar highlights Paredes‘ mastery as a composer and performer.
Alvorada does not limit itself to interpreting Paredes‘ music, but also to reviving it and passing it on to new generations, keeping alive the legacy of one of fado’s greatest masters.
The Alvorada trio is formed by António José Vicente Pereira Lopes, Ricardo Jorge das Neves Dias, and Pedro Nuno Pereira Lopes.
Celebrating its 15th anniversary since its inception in Madrid in 2011, the International Fado Festival, titled this year “100 Years Carlos Paredes” (in honor of the centenary of the exceptional Portuguese guitarist), promotes fado—and, consequently, the Portuguese language and culture—in 20 cities across 14 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
As a whole, the Fado Festival program offers a rich and diverse experience that celebrates the music, culture, and legacy of Carlos Paredes, one of the great masters of the Portuguese guitar.
The Carlos Paredes Centenary is the result of a partnership between the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, the Lisbon City Council, and Lisboa Cultura, through the Fado Museum.
