Morocco Fado Festival celebrates 100 years of Carlos Paredes in Rabat
The Fado Festival Maroc is back in Rabat for its 8th edition, on September 18th and 19th, 2025, with a special program dedicated to one of the most emblematic figures in Portuguese music: Carlos Paredes.
This edition pays tribute to the legendary guitarist, whose legacy continues to influence generations of musicians in Portugal and beyond.
For two days, the Mohammed V National Theatre will host a unique celebration with an excellent programme that includes a conference with guitarist Paulo Soares, a tribute concert with guitarists Luís Guerreiro, Paulo Soares and guest singer Beatriz Villar, the screening of the documentary “Movimentos Perpétuos”, about Paredes‘ legacy, and a closing concert with the emerging star of Fado, Filipa Vieira.
The festival will celebrate the centenary of the birth of Carlos Paredes, an essential figure in Portuguese music, who revolutionised the Portuguese guitar with his virtuoso style and his ability to transform it into a true solo instrument. A visionary composer and exceptional performer, he gave a new dimension to this instrument, influencing generations of musicians. Carlos Paredes made history with albums such as Guitarra Portuguesa and Movimentos Perpétuos, with an impact far beyond the world of Fado.
The Mohammed V National Theatre will host a varied programme over two nights, including concerts, conferences and screenings, allowing the public to discover its unique legacy.

“The importance of Carlos Paredes in the development of the modern Portuguese guitar”
Paulo Soares, renowned guitarist and teacher, will discuss the technical and artistic impact of the master of the Portuguese guitar.
8:00 pm | Concert in Tribute to Carlos Paredes
With Luís Guerreiro and Paulo Soares, two of the most outstanding guitarists of today, and special participation of the fado singer Beatriz Villar, a promising singer of Fado de Coimbra.
Friday, September 19th
6:30 pm | Screening of the documentary “Perpetual Movements” by Edgar Pêra
A sensitive and intimate portrait of Carlos Paredes, through archive images and testimonies from artists and family members.
8:00 pm | Closing Concert: Filipa Vieira
Winner of the Young Talent of Fado Award in 2018, Filipa Vieira represents the new generation of Fado with a powerful and exciting voice.
An internationally touring showcase of Fado, the Fado Festival returns to Rabat for its 8th Moroccan edition, on 18 and 19 September 2025. This unmissable event continues its mission of promoting Portuguese culture through one of its strongest musical emblems: Fado.
Since its debut in Madrid, the Fado Festival has established itself as a reference, celebrating this unique musical expression in 18 major cities across Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. In 2025, it will mark an important milestone by celebrating its 15th global edition.
