IKFEM Festival

Valença Tui International Bridge Will Host a Creative Talent Show with 40 Projects from Both Countries

The 400 meters that unite Portugal and Spain, across the Valença-Tui International Bridge, will stage the official opening of the IKFEM Festival, next Friday, the 21st, at 6 pm, with a creative display of various disciplines ranging from music to fashion, passing through crafts, photography, magic, dance, art and gastronomy.

As a result of the IKFEM CRIATIVA open call, the 40 selected projects – among more than 70 entries – were presented this Monday, at the Parador de Tui, by the festival director, Andrea González, and partners, including the Mayor of Valença, José Manuel Carpinteira.

Remember that the IKFEM Festival starts on Thursday, the 20th, with a visually attractive and musically captivating show. In the middle of the Minho River, a floating piano will be played by Delphine Coutant, who defines herself as a troubadour of the 21st century. The work “Two solar systems” also features Daniel Trutet (cello) and Jenny Violleau (trombone). A mini pop opera, in the style of an ancient tragedy, that will conquer the public.

Until the 25th, the Eurocity Valença-Tui hosts concerts of different styles. The highlight goes to the celebration of the 70th anniversary of maestro António Victorino d’Almeida’s career, on Saturday, the 22nd, at 9.30 pm, in the Municipal Garden of Valença. Accompanied by Portuguese fado singer Katia Guerreiro and Cape Verdean singer Cremilda Medina, a sublime show of fusion and Lusophony is expected. “70 years of career – Mornas & Fados” begins with a solo by the maestro, followed by mornas by Cremilda Medina and fados by Kátia Guerreiro. There will still be time for the singers and their musicians to present their work, individually. The finale will be apotheotic with everyone on stage.

But there’s more. Also on Friday, after the creative show at the International Bridge, the Municipal Garden of Valença receives, at 21:30, Ellen De Lima with Rodrigo & Gustavo Almeida. A sharing of stories between Portugal, Galicia and Brazil, a meeting of generations that have a passion for music in common.

On the 22nd, at 6 pm, Praça da República de Valença welcomes Antía Muiño, elected “Best Emerging Artist” at the Martín Códax de la Música Gallega Awards, and ambassador of Spotify’s EQUAL program, with music exclusively for women.

Still in Valença, on the 23rd, at 11.30 am, Néboa will take a concert to Praça da República that combines traditional Galician and author music with alternative pop and indie-electronic music.

At 6 pm, Elektrofadas propose an educational concert, a journey through emotions through music. At the Church of Salvador de Ganfei, at 9:30 pm, visual art and music by Alqvimia Musicae, with a digital organ and synthesizers that combine the historic with the contemporary. A fusion of music and live video mapping that leaves no one indifferent.

After two intense days in Valença, IKFEM continues in Tui. On the 24th, the Church of Santo Domingo receives, at 21:30, the Duo Moraguez – Pilar and Arabel Moráguez – who propose a concert of Cuban music with melodies, rhythms and harmonies from the Caribbean.

On Galicia Day, July 25, the Igreja de São Domingo receives, at 6 pm, a solo by Daniel Pereira, who brings Beethoven’s four piano sonatas to the stage. At 9 pm, it is the turn of Arume de Malvas, a traditional music group that recovers the three-decade history of the folkloric group Terra de Malvas.

The closing of IKFEM 2023 is scheduled for 21:30, at Praça São Fernando in Tui, with Alqvimia Musica and the fusion show between music and video mapping.

The 11th edition of IKFEM, a cross-border festival that joins the banks of the River Minho, takes place from the 20th to the 25th of July at Eurocidade Valença-Tui. Over five days, attention will turn to Portuguese, Spanish and Brazilian, Cuban, and Cape Verdean culture, in 25 spaces of great architectural and heritage value, including the Cathedral of Tui and the Fortress of Valença.

Admission to the concerts is free but limited to the capacity of each space.
