The Curtas de Vila do Conde – 29th International Film Festival runs until July 22, once again offering moviegoers a diversified program.
The City Councilor, Dr.ª Dália Vieira, was present at the opening session of the Festival, taking the opportunity to welcome those who, throughout the event, will also enjoy the beauty of the city and the friendliness of its people . Dr. Dália Vieira also left a word of recognition and appreciation for the work that has been developed by the organization of Curtas.
This year there is increased interest: the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts, and Sciences, responsible for the Oscars ceremony, has included Festival Curtas in the List of Eligible Festivals for the Oscars. In other words, from this edition onwards, the Grand Prize of the International Competition and the Prize for Best Film in the National Competition are eligible for consideration in the categories of Best Short Film in Animation/Fiction (Live Action) of the Academy Awards®, not being necessary the films to be presented on commercial circuit in the USA and as long as they comply with the contest regulations.
Curtas once again proposes a transversal look at world cinema, in a program where films dilate time, expand temporalities and decline chronologies and ephemeris. Highlight for the 17 films that integrate the national competition of the festival to create a route through Portuguese contemporary cinema.
The 29th Curtas Vila do Conde runs until next Sunday and has the support of the Vila do Conde City Council, the Ministry of Culture, the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual and various partners that are essential for the festival. See the schedule here.
