The International Festival of Literature and Portuguese Language, Lisbon 5L, is an initiative of the Lisbon City Council (CML) to celebrate the World Day of the Portuguese Language and promote Language, Literature, Books, Bookstores, Reading, Authors and its Readers.
The program of the 5L Festival for the next five days will take place in different spaces ranging from the São Luiz theater to the Pharmacy Museum, passing through the Cineteatro Capitólio and the Cinema Ideal, as well as in Lisbon streets, bookstores, squares and squares.
The debates and author’s tables are held at São Luiz Teatro Municipal and at the Pharmacy Museum and are attended by renowned and national writers and specialists, both established and newcomers.
Among the invited authors are names such as Isabel Minhós Martins, José Pacheco Pereira, Bruno Vieira Amaral, João Tordo, Isabel Rio Novo, Lídia Jorge, Mário de Carvalho, Mário Zambujal, Teolinda Gersão, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Filipe Melo, Valter Hugo Mãe, Afonso Cruz, Matilde Campilho, José Luís Peixoto, Itamar Vieira Júnior, Paulo Scott, José Eduardo Agualusa, Ondjaki and Alberto Manguel.
With regard to concerts, which celebrate the word through music, the participation of artists such as the Poetry Ensemble and Lisbon Poetry Orchestra, as well as Sérgio Godinho, Filipe Raposo, Capicua, and Camané, is also expected.
Cinema Ideal will be a space for a cycle of films adapted from literary works, created in partnership with IndieLisboa, which will exhibit “Uma abelha na chuva”, by Fernando Lopes, about Carlos de Oliveira’s novel, “Apocalypse Now”, by Francis Ford Coppola, inspired by Joseph Conrad’s classic “Heart of Darkness”, “Blow-Up“, by Michelangelo Antonioni, from Julio Cortazar’s novel, “Chicken with plums”, by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, about the graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, and “Abruptly last summer”, by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, on the Tennessee Williams play.
