Política Festival returns to Lisbon next week
24th to 26th April Cinema São Jorge, Lisbon
The Política Festival, the largest free-entry event dedicated to human rights and citizenship in Portugal, returns in 2025 for its 9th edition in Lisbon.
Coinciding with the celebrations of April 25th, the Política Festival is once again at the “heart” of the celebrations of this date so fundamental for Portuguese democracy, taking place from April 24th to 26th at Cinema São Jorge, on Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon.
In the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the Ongoing Revolutionary Process (PREC), the program highlights the current “Ongoing Revolutions” in Brazilian society and beyond. The festival will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Constituent Assembly Elections, the first free elections, by direct and universal suffrage, which will be celebrated on April 25.
The complete program of the Política Festival combines cinema, poetry, music, humour, conversations, debates, performances and exhibitions, all with free entry. All shows and debates have interpretation into Libras, and all films, including those spoken in Portuguese, are subtitled in Portuguese. In total, 26 activities are planned.
This year’s musical program proposes a Night of Revolution – a new generation of hip-hop, curated by Rainner Brito. On the eve of April 25th, the Política Festival hosts a unique show that celebrates the new generation of Portuguese-speaking hip-hop. Three emerging artists – Vilson, Vanessa Parish Crooks and Santos, Só – present individual showcases, bringing distinct approaches to rap, soul and poetry to the stage.
In terms of comedy, on the night of April 26, the stage will be occupied by Beatriz Gosta, a comedian who needs no introduction and who will be performing at the Política Festival in a special format dedicated to feminism and the fight against discrimination and prejudice.
Another highlight is the return of the “Face-to-face meeting with deputies”. With just a few weeks to go before the early legislative elections, registered participants will spend five minutes talking individually with each deputy about a topic, question or issue. Alexandra Leitão (PS), António Filipe (PCP), Fabian Figueiredo (BE) and Rodrigo Saraiva (IL) have already confirmed their attendance – list being updated.
Registration is also taking place via email at participa.politica@gmail.com for several free activities: the workshop “The digital is political”, the workshop “Vocal Improvisation: Revolution through the Voice”, the workshop on “Young Associations – from theory to practice” and also the guided tour of the House of Parliament – Interpretive Center.
During the three days of the Política Festival, Cinema São Jorge will host four exhibitions: “Portugal in 1975 – Between revolution and change”, by Marques Valentim; “What blows here, today”, by Zenha Preto, “Immigration Barometer: the perspective of the Portuguese”, by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation, and “50 Years of the First Free Elections in Portugal”.
The Lisbon Politics Festival is a concept by the Isonomia Association, which is co-produced in Lisbon by EGEAC and Produtores Associados.
