ASSOCIAÇÃO DE COMERCIANTES DO BAIRRO ALFAMA

In this year’s edition of Santa Casa Alfama, the neighborhood’s Fado houses are called upon to participate more actively in the Festival, starring in the opening of the Santa Maria Maior Stage.

There will be eight Fado houses, drawn by the Alfama Neighborhood Merchants Association, four on each day of the Festival with a cast of two musicians and a fado singer. On September 29th, the public will get to know a little better the work of spaces such as As Lucindas, São Miguel d’Alfama, Esquina de Alfama, and A Fama de Alfama; on September 30th it is time to present Alfama Grill, Tasca do Jaime, Bohemia Lx * Sé and Tasquinha Canto do Fado. In this authentic parade of Fado houses, the public will be able to hear voices such as Jéssica Crispim, Carolina Gomes, Cristina Madeira, Joana Amendoeira, Henriqueta Baptista, João Soeiro, Tina Santos and Luís Carlos.

During the Festival, each participating space will also have a menu dedicated to Santa Casa Alfama.

With just over two weeks to go before another edition of Santa Casa Alfama, this is a good time to remember some of the highlights already announced in an unmissable lineup.

On the first day of the Festival, September 29th, the Santa Casa Stage welcomes the youth of Beatriz Felício and Geadas, proving that the Festival is always attentive to the most promising voices in national music. That same night, there will be the great show of Homage to Hermínia Silva, with the voices of FF, Lenita Gentil, Anabela and Filipa Cardoso, and it will certainly be a moment of enormous joy and good spirits, honoring the legacy of this great Fado singer. Later that day, the Santa Casa Stage welcomes Camané, a voice that needs no introduction, one of the great Fado interpreters of recent decades.

On September 30th, Palco Santa Casa welcomes a young man who is already a certainty in Fado and Portuguese music, Miguel Moura. On the same night, the Festival’s biggest stage welcomes the voice of Teresa Salgueiro, one of the most important interpreters of Portuguese music, whether as the lead singer of the group Madredeus or in her solo career. The night ends with Sara Correia, with a new album about to be released, an excellent opportunity to hear some new things from this voice that seems to contain the past, present, and future of Fado.

But as always happens, there is more Festival than the Santa Casa Stage. A good itinerary will have to include, for example, Palco Caixa, at Centro Cultural Dr. Magalhães Lima. On the first day, the voices of Pedro Moutinho and Teresinha Landeiro pass by; and on the second day it’s the turn of Lenita Gentil and Edu Miranda with their “Fado no Chorinho”.

The Santa Casa Alfama experience would not be complete without a visit to the Ermelinda Freitas Stage, on the Rooftop of the Lisbon Cruise Terminal. On September 29th, in this Fado proposal at sunset, there will be a recreation of the atmosphere of a Fado house, in this case, Mesa dos Frades, with the performance of voices such as Ana Sofia Varela, Rodrigo Rebelo de Andrade, and Tânia Oleiro at the invitation of musician Pedro de Castro. On the 30th, it is the public’s turn to be invited to be “Em Casa d`Amália”. This time, host José Gonçalez welcomes a group of musicians and fado singers who need no introduction: Raquel Tavares, Jorge Fernando, Vânia Duarte, Ângelo Freire, and Flávio Cardoso Júnior promise to create another series of memorable memories for the Festival’s audience. Another moment At the heart of the public is the usual Fado à Janela in Largo de São Miguel. Musicians Jorge Silva, Miguel Monteiro, and José Manuel Rodrigues will have in their hands a Portuguese guitar, a viola, and a bass, respectively, to fill the streets and alleys of Alfama with Fado.

There will, of course, be much more Fado in places like the Bogani Stage at Grupo Sportivo Adicense, the Church of São Miguel and the Church of Santo Estevão, the Amália Stage at the Abreu Advogados Auditorium, the new stage at the Hotel Memmo Alfama, the terrace of the Museum of Fado, the Santa Casa Futuro Stage at Sociedade Boa União or the Santa Maria Maior Stage at Largo do Chafariz de Dentro.
