From the 14th to the 24th of June, the Festivities of St. John of Braga give all visitors to the historical center and surrounding area discover their streets and alleys through the intense smells of manjericos and grilled sardines, garnishes and of traditional songs that echo through the air.
There are 11 days that include 270 programming, 150 planned activities, 25 shows and about 10 thousand people and 365 entities involved. The St. John’s Festivities Association estimates that the City will host two million people. On the night of 23 June, the presence of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, is expected.
In the 2019 edition, which will be presented on Wednesday, May 15, in the Chapel of São João da Ponte, the Festas will have a vast program dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of their heritage and historical traditions and to innovation, with the introduction of new initiatives and major concerts with renowned artists.
The meeting ‘Todos ao Bombo’ and the creation of the ‘Artesão Square’ are two of the novelties of the Feasts of St. John this year. in Praça do Artesão, there will be diverse activities like the construction of cabeçudos, drums, string instruments, and viola braguesa.
The musician Daniel Pereira Cristo gives a concert on the night of June 23, with special guests Júlio Pereira and Galician Xabier Diaz. The musical program of S. João also counts on concerts of Vítor Rodrigues, Toy, Agir and Anselmo Ralph.
