On April 11, Filipa Biscaia presented “Cravos prá festa”, the first preview of her next album, scheduled for release in 2025.
With music by André Dias and lyrics by Capicua, the song emerges as a celebration of freedom, combining a light and festive approach. The song draws a parallel between the arrival of Spring and the end of the dictatorship, evoking renewal and hope.
The video “Cravos prá festa” pays tribute to Celeste Caeiro, the woman who, on April 25, 1974, distributed carnations to the military, making the gesture one of the most iconic symbols of the Carnation Revolution. Celeste Caeiro passed away on November 15th of last year, and this tribute reinforces the importance of her story and her contribution to collective memory.
Filipa Biscaia’s new album will feature a repertoire of original songs by essential authors of Portuguese music, including Vitorino Salomé, Capicua, Amélia Muge, Teresa Muge, Mário Pacheco, Vasco Graça Moura, Ricardo Dias, André Dias, Manuel Ferreira and Teresinha Landeiro. With a very unique sound identity, the album combines influences from traditional Portuguese music, folklore, Lisbon fado and Coimbra songs.
The album is produced by Ricardo Dias, a musician, arranger and composer with a notable career in Portuguese music. His work alongside artists such as Fausto Bordalo Dias, Vitorino Salomé, Carlos do Carmo, Filipa Pais, Mísia and Cristina Branco has been widely recognized by critics. Among his productions, three albums that were awarded the José Afonso Prize stand out: “Trás-os-Montes” by Né Ladeiras, “À Porta do Mundo” by Filipa Pais and “Ceia Louca” by Brigada Victor Jara.
In the live concerts, Filipa Biscaia will be accompanied by an excellent line-up: André Dias on the Portuguese guitar, Bernardo Viana on the fado guitar, Daniel Pinto on the acoustic bass, João Caetano on percussion and Ricardo Dias on the piano.
“Carnations for the party” is now available on all digital platforms.
Filipa Biscaia
Filipa Biscaia showed an interest in music from an early age, but it was when she entered college and joined the Tuna Feminina da Universidade de Coimbra (FAN), that she had the opportunity to sing as a soloist, interpreting traditional Portuguese themes, mostly from Coimbra’s songs.
It was in the academic world that Filipa gained visibility on a musical level, and it was at the invitation of Fado ao Centro that, in 2015, she began her professional career in Fado. In 2019, he moved to Lisbon and began singing in several fado houses.
In 2022 he released “two by two”, his first album, whose single “Rosa Secreta” was nominated for the International Portuguese Music Awards. In 2023, he released a live recording of Maria Faia, which won the award for “Best Traditional Performance” at the same awards.
In Portuguese music, his main references include, among others, the names of José Afonso, Adriano Correia de Oliveira, Amália Rodrigues, Fernanda Maria and Maria José da Guia.
