Filipe Furtado Trio in concert at Salão Brazil

Filipe Furtado Trio presents in Coimbra its second album “Como Se Matam Primaveras”. On January 17th, at 9:30 pm, the trio will perform a show to present their new album at Salão Brazil.

“Como Se Matam Primaveras” is the name of the second album by Azorean Filipe Furtado. The new work solidifies the trio format with comrades Filipe Fidalgo (saxophone) and Paulo Silva (drums). In the passage through the many stages since the premiere of “Prelúdio” (Marca Pistola, 2022) and in the new writing and composition processes, they gradually left the guitar in the background, so that the piano and keyboards continued this universe that the single “Uma Coisa Linda Morrer” promised.

The themes of the new album, which also features special appearances by Ana Maria Pardal and Luísa Levi, fearlessly embrace the increasingly larger and more assertive space between the trio’s lyrics and instrumentals.

The influences of jazz and traditional songbooks are mixed in with indie universes and draw on more cinematic references. The journey and each of its ports of refuge are important. The philosophical or poetic exercise of the album’s title, between the esoteric weight of the seasons, their colours, lights or semiotic nuances, are dressed in Autumn, whether through the writing or the melodic and harmonic choices of the tracks. They will also be ideal to fulfil.

Who is Felipe Furtado?

Born and raised in the beautiful city of Ponta Delgada, Filipe Furtado left the islands for the city of Coimbra in 2010 to pursue studies in journalism. He stayed there, but his passion for music spoke louder and, after finishing his degree, he enrolled in the jazz course at Tone Music School. With the guitar as his companion, he began to write, experiment, set some poems to music and pluck up the courage to sing in public.

An eclectic music lover, even more so as an amateur radio broadcaster, he is accompanied by drummer Paulo Silva and saxophonist Filipe Fidalgo. His trio travels through various territories, passing through jazz and being influenced by the rich Portuguese songbook. His debut album “Prelúdio”, which he has been showing since 2021, was recorded at the Blue House studios and released by the Azorean label Marca Pistola, at the end of 2022. In final preparations, his second album “Como se matam Primaveras”, recorded in the trio, will be released in late 2024.
