Filipe Toledo and Coco Ho win first race of the WSL Countdown

Hawaiian Coco Ho and Brazilian Filipe Toledo won today the first race of the ‘WSL Countdown’, in the artificial wave pool in Lemoore.

This competition, the first in mixed pairs, premiered the return of world surfing, after the circuits were canceled, on July 17th, due to the covid-19 pandemic.

In the final of the competition, Ho and Toledo added 16.24 points, surpassing the 14.63 of the pair formed by the Brazilian Tatiana Weston-Webb and the Japanese Kanoa Igarashi.

The winners, who donated $ 10,000 (about 8,500 euros) to the wave and ocean protection institution Surfrider Foundation’s LA Chapter, eliminated Americans Alyssa Spencer and Kolohe Andino in the quarter-finals, and Sage Erickson and Kelly Slater, 11 times world champion, in the semi-finals.

The ‘WSL Countdown’ predicts the Euro Cup, in France and Portugal, and the Australian Grand Slam, with championships on the Gold Coast and Magaret River, between September and October.
