‘Diários de Otsoga’, which had its world premiere in July at the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, in France, is one of the six features included in the Wavelengths section of TIFF.
The 46th edition of the festival, co-directed by Portuguese programmer Joana Vicente, takes place between September 9th and 18th. Last year, TIFF happened with a reduced schedule, because of covid-19, and focused mainly on online, although there were some limited in-person events.
The film by Maureen Fazendeiro and Miguel Gomes was shot in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic, with actors Crista Alfaiate, Carloto Cotta, and João Nunes Monteiro, and the entire technical team confined in a house, with a garden and swimming pool.
The script is by Mariana Ricardo, Maureen Fazendeiro, and Miguel Gomes, and all of them – including other elements of the production as well – enter the film, collectively discussing and constructing the narrative as it was made.
After Cannes, ‘Diários de Otsoga’, which had its commercial premiere in France last month, was part of the Vila do Conde Short Film Festival and will premiere in Portuguese cinemas on August 19th.
‘Diários de Otsoga’ is the first film co-signed by Portuguese director Miguel Gomes and French filmmaker Maureen Fazendeiro.
