Finally a Festival, even if in a different format

It was with Maria João Pires that the 1st Festival Jardim do Marquês began, an edition that had already been postponed due to the pandemic, the pianist was on stage with Júlio Resende and they alternated at the piano.

“From Classic to Jazz” was the theme of the show by Maria João Pires and Júlio Resende that together on stage in Oeiras played wonderful works such as “Sonata D. 664 in A major” by Schubert, “5 Nocturnos” by Chopin, “ Suite Bergamasque” Debussy, interspersed with improvisations by Júlio Resende and ended with Júlio Resende Improvisations.

When it seemed that all festivals would be postponed, one resisted, has a different format, only two concerts a day, only one stage, there are seats respecting the distance, but it’s outdoors, you can drink a beer, a glass of wine or a cocktail, mainly you can see friends, family and listen to good music, a bit of normality in covid times.

The Festival with all precautions and following the guidelines of the DGS, has food and drink spaces and even a tobacco shop, where anyone who wants can buy something to eat or a cold drink, although the night was cold, some would have preferred hot drinks.

This concert was not supposed to be the first, it was to open with Seu Jorge and Daniel Jobim who came to sing Tom Jobim, but due to restrictions, it had to be postponed, but the beginning of the Festival was fast-paced with the mastery of these two excellent Portuguese pianists.

There will be another five days of excellent music, tomorrow, the 6th of July, it will be Rufus Wainwright and Vicente Palma, the 8th it will be the turn of António Zambujo and Tainá, the 9th it will be on stage Bonga and Mayra Andrade, the 10th, more three great names Camané and Mário Laginha and Jorge Palma, the last day will be Rui Veloso and Tito Paris, it couldn’t end better, big names for a big festival.
