The Jazz Jazz Festival, which will bring together Portuguese and foreign musicians on stage at the São Luiz Theater, will start today with the Hot Club of Portugal Jazz Orchestra, which will be hosted by American drummer John Hollenbeck.
The program of the 1st edition of the festival, which includes “concerts with Portuguese and foreign musicians, seeks to establish bridges with other jazz festivals in the world and gives special attention to the training of young musicians”, reads on the official website of theater hall of Chiado, in Lisbon.
Until Saturday, the program includes performances by, among others, the bass player Bernardo Moreira, who presents the project “Entre Paredes”, in which he returns to the repertoire of guitarist Carlos Paredes, after the album “Ao Paredes confesso” in 2002, the pianist Filipe Raposo, who will present “Ocre“, his most recent work, the collective Coreto, composed of 12 musicians linked to Porto, drummers Jeff Williams and João Lencastre and the Portuguese youth orchestra Big Band Júnior.
For the last day of the Jazz Festival Lisboa is held the show Jazz Band Workshop, free entry with the direction of the American bassist Greg Cohen.
According to the organization, this concert will result from the work that Greg Cohen will develop with a number of young musicians from local schools during the week that the festival takes place.
The Jazz Lisbon Festival, organized with the Hot Clube de Portugal, comes a year after the Jazz Festival left the São Luiz Theater, where it was held annually since the first edition in 2003. The 16th edition of the Jazz Festival, organized by the Sons da Lusofonia association took place between March 23 and 25, at the National Conservatory and in other nearby spaces, in Bairro Alto, also in Lisbon.
