Fiumani brings life to the facade of Oeiras Parque, combining art with sustainability
A-MAR Faz parte da Linha”
Until October 13th, Oeiras Parque will have a large artistic installation on display, on its facade, developed by artist Filippo Fiumani. This project aims to impact the community, transmitting a subliminal warning message for the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems.
Inspired by Oeiras Parque’s connection to the Line and the sea, Fiumani created “A-MAR Faz parte da Linha” and the result came from the idea of creating something impactful, which was at the same time grand and detailed like the ocean.
Thus, the artist created an installation that recycles fishing nets, rescued from the ocean by the Sea Shepherd organization, as well as other previously discarded materials – car parts, stuffed animals, surfboards, and children’s toys, among others. He transformed these objects into a piece of art that aims to raise awareness and promote more ecological and sustainable behaviours.
For this work, Fiumani chose two protagonists of marine life, corals and phytoplankton, which are indicators of ocean health, and responsible for shelter and food for all types of species. The corals give body and shape to the piece, while the colour and bioluminescence of the phytoplankton, which are represented by LED neon, allow the structure to gain new life at night.
Due to the theme of the work and how sustainability is a concept present in the artist’s work, this component accompanies the artistic creation from beginning to end.
In this way, all the material used in the installation will be delivered to Sea Shepherd, which will distribute it to several partner entities to give it a new life, through the creation of products or for other applications such as skateboards, furniture and fabrics.
This work can be observed by all visitors through a viewpoint created for this purpose, with access from the -2 floor of the orange area (access from the Zara Home store).
By giving the stage to this initiative, Oeiras Parque reinforces its objective of being more than a shopping centre, becoming a space that gives rise to culture while, as has become the habit, transmitting through artistic creation a message to the community about the importance of protecting the environment in the future of the planet.
