Football Observatory: Premier League ‘talisman’ is Portuguese

When the striker is on the pitch, Wolverhampton earns an average of 2.10 points. At the level of the so-called ‘big five’, only Christophe Jallet from Nice makes the biggest difference.

The Football Observatory published this Monday a study that decorated Diogo Jota as the main talisman of the Premier League. Which is like who says, the one that makes the most difference in their teams.

In the 10 meetings where the Portuguese striker participated, Wolverhampton won an average of 2.10 points. When he is not on the pitch, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team gets 0.17 points, which results in a difference of 1.93 points per game.

At the level of the five main European leagues – Premier League, La Liga Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Serie A – only Christophe Jallet beats Diogo Jota. When the side does not play, the Nice wins, on average, minus 2.56 points.

Also noteworthy is the presence of Daniel Carriço in these accounts. The Portuguese national was elected the sixth largest ‘talisman’ of the Spanish championship, on par with Dani Carvajal of Real Madrid. Both are ‘worth’ plus 1.30 points when they are chosen by their respective coaches.

On the opposite pole is Massimo Gobi. When the defender plays, Parma wins, on average, 0.63 points. When it does not, the team of Portuguese international Bruno Alves completes … 2.29 points, giving a negative difference of 1.66.
