More than 300 participants from Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Mozambique over seven editions.
The Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Course in Human Rights at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto is a fully online training course, unique in Portugal, within the scope of the theory and practice of human rights, integrating legal, ethical, sociological, psychological, political and cultural concepts into the study of human rights.

“We take a holistic approach whose main objective is to provide participants with an integrated understanding of the issues and challenges that shape the area of human rights,” says Catarina Santos Botelho, professor at the Faculty of Law and one of the coordinators of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Course in Rights Humans.
Throughout the training, participants are exposed to areas such as “Globalization, inequalities and social exclusion; International Law as refuge and final protection; Human Rights Education; Populisms and militant democracy; Migrations and Refugees – contributions from psychology and right; Migrations and Refugees – cultural mediation; Migrations and Refugees – MEERU Aproxima; Children and Young People – contributions from psychology, law
and the social economy; Elderly people – contributions from psychology, law and social economics; People with disabilities – contributions from psychology and law; but also Gender issues – contributions from psychology and law, among many others,” explains Filipe Pinto, from the Transversal Area for Social Economy and also coordinator of this Postgraduate course.
“Through the interdisciplinarity of postgraduate studies and the presence of guest professors who work in different Non-Governmental Organizations, it is possible to work on areas such as dignity, vulnerability, solidarity and diversity, and see their practical applicability – through the development of a project – in area of human rights, seeking to combine ‘knowing how to be’ with ‘knowing how to do,” highlights Mariana Barbosa, professor at the Faculty of Education and Psychology and one of the coordinators of the Postgraduate Program.
Developed through a joint partnership between the Porto School of the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Education and Psychology and the Transversal Area of Social Economy of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, this course, which takes place entirely online, combines Law, Education, Psychology and Economics Social, providing an integrated and interdisciplinary vision of human rights.
The Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Course in Human Rights at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto begins in October 2024 and will last until May 2025.
