Forum of the Future 2018 returns to Porto and opens with leader of the Pussy Riot

Music and activist Nadya Tolokonnikova, founder of the Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot, is one of the invited guests at the opening of the Forum of the Future 2018, an event that takes place in Porto from 04 to 10 November and is considered a ‘political statement of the city’ , by the Mayor of Porto.

The Forum of the Future, a festival of thought that takes place annually in the city of Porto and that this year has a budget of 225 thousand euros (30 thousand more than in 2017), will open doors next November 4, at 4:00 p.m., in Rivoli, with the artist Ali Cherri to present, in the first act, ‘Water Blues’, a ‘reflection on the power that mud exerts on us as material and metaphor’.

In the second opening act, also at Rivoli, the video entitled ‘Hidden Park’ by the artist Guan Xiao is presented, which will address the themes of the body and humanity as ‘figures that persist in time’.

The opening of the Forum of the Future, which this year has as its theme ‘Ágora Club’, ends with a third act in which Nadya Tolokonnikova, the artist and political activist and leader of the band Pussy Riot, speaks of ‘Activism in Greece’ Old’.

Nadya Tolokonnikova, who was arrested for her “punk prayer” in a Moscow cathedral, defends the idea that “ancient Greece is the homeland not only of the academic writing philosophy of Plato and Aristotle, but also of the tradition of a practical philosophy.”

Toyo Ito, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2013, which will be for the first time in Portugal, marks the third day of the Forum of the Future with the theme ‘New public arena, new public space’, speaking of the “new agoras” of the times of today (the new public squares, the new spaces of meeting and meeting).
