Four short films by Gabriel Abrantes in theaters in October

The program will feature the films ‘Freud Und Friends’ (2015), ‘Uma Breve História de Princesa X’ (2016), ‘Os Humores Artificiais’ (2016) and ‘As Extraordinárias Desventuras da Menina de Pedra’ (2018).

These four shorts had a world premiere at festivals, namely Cannes, Berlin, Locarno, and Toronto, won more than 25 awards and unveiled the cinematographic universe of Gabriel Abrantes. They also highlight the places that serve as a backdrop for the films, shot in places like Lisbon, Paris, New York, Mato Grosso and São Paulo (Brazil).

Gabriel Abrantes was born in the United States in 1984, studied in New York and Paris, and has been exhibiting individually since 2006. He adds more than twenty films, mainly short films, to which he joins the feature film “Diamantino“, co-co. signed with Daniel Schmidt.

In 2009, he won the EDP New Artists Award and the following year he was awarded in Locarno with “A history of mutual respect”, sharing the achievement with Daniel Schmidt.

In 2018 “Diamantino” won the Critics’ Week Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. This month the film received the Sophia award, from the Portuguese Cinema Academy, for special effects and characterization.

In 2015 he created the production company Artificial Humors, which has produced his most recent films, but also by other directors, such as “O cordeiro de Deus“, by David Pinheiro Vicente.

Artificial Humors is currently producing a short film by Margarida Lucas and has three fiction feature films in development, in co-production with France and the United States.
