FourFourTwo: Paulo Fonseca ahead of Mourinho in the 50 best in the world
The list still only includes the last 30 placed, but there is already room for four Portuguese.
The prestigious magazine FourFourTwo published this Friday, a new batch of the list of the top 50 coaches in the world. And, after two Portuguese coaches have been present between the 50th and 31st place – Sérgio Conceição (33rd) and Abel Ferreira (44th), two more appear between the 30th and the 21st. The post
Paul Fonseca of Shakhtar Donetsk is considered the 22nd best coach in the world, immediately behind Zlatko Dalic, who led the Croatian team to the World Cup final in the summer, France.
“It should be heresy to suggest that the great Mircea Lucescu has a competitor as the club’s best coach ever, but Fonseca has managed to make it almost impossible to replace a legend with a long passage for the club with distinction,” the magazine said.
Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho appears three places down in 25th place. FourFourTwo writes that the ‘Special One’ remains “a beautiful footballing mind”, but asks: “Why is it that, despite such an exorbitant expenditure, Manchester United still falls short of expectations?”
