Foz Côa film festival honors producer Paulo Branco
The International Film Festival of Foz Côa – Cinecôa, which runs from September 27 to 29, honors cinematographic producer Paulo Branco and present 15 films from seven countries, the organization said today.
“The best way to start the 2018 edition of Cinecôa is with a tribute to the producer Paulo Branco, with the screening of the feature film ‘Caderno Negro’ by Valeria Sarmiento,” Cinecôa programmer António Valente said.
The film ‘O Caderno Negro’, a Portuguese-French co-production by Chilean Valeria Sarmiento and produced by Paulo Branco, is inspired by the work of Camilo Castelo Branco, with the participation of the French actress Lou de Laâge, as protagonist, and the Portuguese Victoria Guerra, Catarina Wallenstein and Filipe Vargas. The film will be screened on September 27th.
The feature film is also scheduled for the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain, which runs from September 21 to 29. The Portuguese premiere was announced for October 11 by Leopardo Filmes.
“During the Cinecôa, we will have the opportunity to see for the first time in Portugal, the film ‘The black notebook’, because it is practically only exhibited in San Sebastián, something very new,” said António Valente.
During the Cinecôa, there will be films from around the globe such as Iran, Russia, Brazil, Portugal and Spain.
Cinecôa promises a strong connection to music with the screening of the film ‘Uma Vida Sublime’ by Luís Diogo, scheduled for September 28, which will be followed by a Moonshiners concert.
“In this film the protagonist is Susie Filipe, also to Moonshiners drummers,” explained the programmer.
Within the musical field, on the nights of the 28th and 29th, there will be the approach of music and cinema, which will count on the participation of maestro and composer António Vitorino de Almeida.
According to the organization, a session is planned with the documentary, ‘September – A Vida Inteira’ by Ana Sofia Fonseca, ‘a docile saga about the families in Portugal who make wine with love’.
Children will have a spotlight throughout the festival, with real-life movies and animation.
Organized by the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Cinecôa takes place since 2011, the year of its debut, and has already honored or had the presence of outstanding figures of cinema, such as. -Pedro Vasconcelos, Tino Navarro or, more recently, the British filmmaker Hugh Hudson, director of ‘Momentos de Glória’ and ‘Greystoke – The Legend of Tarzan’, ‘Altamira’. Paulo Branco is the featured personality this year.
