Francisca Veselko becomes two-time national champion at Bom Petisco Peniche Pro
Francisca Veselko today became two-time national champion at the Bom Petisco Peniche Pro, the 5th and final stage of the MEO Surf League taking place on Lagido beach, in Peniche. The 20-year-old athlete won the title by qualifying for the semi-finals of the event, overcoming her opponent in the dispute for the highest trophy in Portuguese surfing, Gabriela Dinis.
This is the second national title for a local surfer from Carcavelos Beach after having celebrated the same feat in 2021.
The current junior world champion thus closes a golden year in her career and in the MEO Surf League where she dominated in terms of performance, showing remarkable consistency in surfing level and results:
1st stage – Allianz Figueira Pro – 2nd place
2nd stage – Joaquim Chaves Saúde Porto Pro – 1st place
3rd stage – Allianz Ericeira Pro – 3rd place
4th stage – Allianz Ribeira Grande Pro – 1st place
5th stage – Bom Petisco Peniche Pro – to be competed
“Both national titles I won in the MEO Surf League are incredible and super special, each in its own way. This one now ends up being more special because my mother, my uncle and my brother are here. My family is here supporting me, which I can’t have during the year because I’m always away and it’s very difficult. I like this type of sea, but it was a challenging heat and it went until the last seconds, I had a lot of sets in my head but that’s what we train for and we are prepared mentally and physically to go through these challenges and be able to face them in the best way. I came from a good result, which was 3rd place in the last stage of the Challenger Series circuit of the World Surf League, in Brazil, and I came directly to the last stage of the MEO Surf League with the mindset of being a national champion and I managed to achieve this goal. Now it’s time to focus on tomorrow and try to win the stage.”
