Portuguese athlete Francisco Belo qualified today in fourth place in the final of the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, with a personal record of 20.97 meters.
Francisco Belo, who had qualified with the eighth and worst record (20.31 meters), entered with 20.59 meters and scored 20.97 in the second test, surpassing in 7 centimetres his previous best mark (20.90), on February 17 in Istanbul.
The 27-year-old Benfica then scored 20.65 meters in the third inning, 20.56 in the fourth and none in the last two.
The race was won by Poland’s Michal Haratyk at 21.65 meters, the best European record of the year followed by German David Storl, silver with 21.54 and Czech Tomás Stanek, bronze with 21.25.
By the qualification, in the 12th place of the general, was the national record holder (21.27 meters, on February 18, 2018, in Pombal) and fourth place in the Europeans of 2017, Tsanko Arnaudov, staying at 19.86 meters.
