Francisco Duarte Mangas wins Camilo Castelo Branco Story Prize
The prize instituted in 1991 is jointly awarded by APE and the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, with a value of 7,500 euros.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he jury, composed of teachers and researchers Isabel Cristina Mateus and Maria de Lurdes Sampaio and writer Liberto Cruz, awarded the prize to Francisco Duarte Mangas for considering the ingenious way he summons for narratives a brief set of authors, voices, and texts from universal literature making them real and living presences in an urban everyday setting.
Francisco Duarte Mangas was born in 1960, in Rossas, in the municipality of Vieira do Minho, being a journalist, poet and fiction writer, with work published since the 1980s.
Throughout his literary career, he was awarded several times, having received, for example, the Eixo Atlántico Prize for Galician and Portuguese Narratives, the Carlos de Oliveira Prize and the ITF Literature Grand Prix.
