The artist Francisco Primeiro will release his debut single, titled “Gabriela“. The song will be available for download and streaming on all digital platforms starting April 21st.
Produced by André Indiana, the theme is a mixture of various influences from jazz and North American funk, but with the accessibility and pragmatism of pop music.
“Gabriela” is the first single from a series of releases by the artist, whose band is preparing their debut album on the premise of further exploring the boundaries of jazz, soul, funk, and R&B.
About Francisco Primeiro
Francisco Primeiro was the name of a fishing boat. The fisherman’s son adopted the boat’s name for himself, in memory of his father, and now sails the musical waters of jazz, funk, soul, and R&B.
Thus was born the project of the Porto musician, which from its inception to the present day has undergone several metamorphoses, experimenting with styles, collaborating with different musicians, and growing and maturing at every step.
He has experienced several stages, from north to south of the country, since 2019, until he decided that he should finally crystallize some of his themes in the studio. Thus, in 2022, he begins recording his debut album at AI Studios, with producer André Indiana and with the collaboration of Sérgio Silva (drums), João Mascarenhas (keys), Tiago Lima (bass), and several guest musicians, such as Zé Nuno, Helena Neto, Pancho Tarabbia or Fabián Araya.
The vision was clear: to create a record that encompasses the “excitement” and unpredictability of jazz, the “groove” of funk and R&B, and the soul of soul (pass the redundancy), combined with the comfort and accessibility of pop music, in a set of songs in Portuguese to be heard on the road.
The premise: to make an album that praised the performance of the musicians, giving the sensation of a live recording, with the energy, fun, and sound that are characteristic of it, challenging, at the same time, musical and stylistic conventions.
From this musical collection comes the debut single “Gabriela”, the first of a set of songs that will be released over the next few months.
