Fred Martins and Joana Amendoeira together in unique concert

Auditório Carlos Paredes

The meeting between the Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist and the Portuguese fado singer will take place on February 16, at 9.30 pm, in the Carlos Paredes auditorium, and will also feature the special participation of Rui Poço.

Tickets are already on sale at Ticketline for the unique presentation by Fred Martins and Joana Amendoeira that will take place on February 16th, at 9.30 pm, at the Carlos Paredes Auditorium, in Benfica, Lisbon, on a night when fado, music, and morna and bossa nova – three of the best-known Portuguese musical expressions around the world – will be gathered on the same stage.

In addition to celebrating Lusophony, the concert will also pay another tribute: on February 16, 2023, Carlos Paredes would celebrate 99 years of life. And the Auditorium, which is proud to perpetuate the name of this master of the Portuguese guitar, invited Fred and Joana to celebrate the date, which will also have the presence on stage of Rui Poço, another great name of the Portuguese guitar.

The concert lineup is based on themes from the most recent albums “Na volta da mare”, by Joana Amendoeira, and “Ultramarino”, by Fred Martins, as well as themes composed by Fred Martins and Tiago Torres da Silva interpreted by Joana on the album and on stage, such as O medo, Na volta da Maré, Entre o Calor e o Frio and Viver a mil (two songs in which both share vocals), while Fred will present his own hits, such as A Filha da Porta-Bandeira, Fado Crioulo, Zona Sul, and Colibri.

Joana and Fred’s albums were recorded in Lisbon almost simultaneously and reinforce and update the ties between Portuguese and Brazilian music. From bossa to fado, from chula to samba and baião, all rhythms blend naturally in the guitar and voices of Fred Martins and Joana Amendoeira, aligned in a concert that is very Brazilian and at the same time very Portuguese.

“I am very happy to share the stage with Joana Amendoeira, with whom I have so many affinities since “Na Volta da Maré”, an album of only my compositions and Tiago Torres da Silva that she edited in 2021. It is always a pleasure to be at the side of such a talented artist and friend”, says Fred.

About Fred Martins
Brazilian based in Lisbon, Fred Martins has a prominent place among the artists of his generation. The singer, songwriter, and guitarist offer a repertoire as diverse as it is qualified and that refers to the emblematic Brazilian composers. Fred has edited eight albums and the most recent is “Ultramarino” (Biscoito Fino/Alfa Music) which brings together songs composed in the years he lived between Portugal and Spain and features musical production by Hector Castillo (winner of four Grammy Awards). The repertoire condenses in a contemporary way elements of samba, bossa nova, blues, and Iberian music such as fado and flamenco. His compositions have already been edited by Adriana Calcanhoto, Ney Matogrosso, Maria Rita, Zélia Duncan, MPB4, Joana Amendoeira, and Susana Travassos, among others. Some themes by Fred Martins are also part of soundtracks for soap operas and series on Rede Globo.

About Joana Amendoeira
Joana Amendoeira is one of the most relevant voices of the so-called “new generation of Fado”. At just 13 years old, she received her first female youth acting award. Since then, she has regularly participated in shows across the country. In 1998, she recorded her first album, “Olhos Garotos”, becoming the youngest fadista with recorded albums. Then came “Aquela Rua”, published in 2000, but it was with the album “Joana Amendoeira” (in 2003) that the fado singer achieved recognition from the artistic community, critics, and the public. Joana toured several countries in Europe and also participated in several International Music Fairs, such as Mercat de Música Viva de Vic (Spain) or Strickly Mundial (Canada). In Cape Verde, she performed at the Kriol Jazz Festival, singing alongside Nancy Vieira, combining fado and morna – a memorable concert that they recreated, in 2015, at the Théatre de la Ville, in Paris. In 2021 Joana Amendoeira released “Na volta da maré”, her tenth career album, which is a meeting of the music of Fred Martins and the words of the Portuguese poet Tiago Torres da Silva.
