Frederico Morais beats Hawaian Pro and returns to the world surfing elite
Portuguese surfer Frederico ‘Kikas’ Morais won this Sunday’s Hawaian Pro, a 10,000-point World Surfing Championship (WSL) qualifying circuit, and secured his presence on the main circuit next year.
Kikas secured first place in the Haleiwa Beach final with 12.77 points, qualifying for the world surfing elite in 2020, where he has competed in 2017 and 2018.
The Guincho surfer became the first Portuguese athlete to win this race in Hawaii, having already reached the final in 2016 (second, behind Hawaiian and two-time world champion John John Florence). Italian Leonardo Fioravanti (11.50), South African Matthew McGillivray (10.33) and Australian Ethan Ewing (9.67).
