Frederico Morais once again among the names that will compete in Ribeira d’Ilhas

Liga MEO Surf – The Allianz Ericeira Pro competition schedule is now known

The Allianz Ericeira Pro is scheduled to start next Friday, and the competition schedule has already been released for the third of five stages of the Liga MEO Surf 2025, the 1st Division of national surfing.

The best national surfers will head to Europe’s first World Surfing Reserve, in what will be the 16th consecutive season in which the Liga MEO Surf will pass through the right-handers of Ribeira d’Ilhas, one of the noble halls of national surfing.

Tomás Fernandes and Teresa Bonvalot arrive at this stage with the Go Chill yellow jersey status, as they are leading the national ranking, with Tomás tied for first place with Luís Perloiro. They are also joined by Frederico Morais, a former world elite competitor, who is returning to the waves of Ericeira to continue regaining his competitive rhythm after an injury he suffered last winter.

It is also worth noting that the Allianz Ericeira Pro serves as preparation for Frederico Morais, Afonso Antunes and Teresa Bonvalot now that the season of the world qualifying circuit, the Challenger Series, is about to begin, which begins in early June in Australia and also passes through Ribeira D’Ilhas in October.

Some of the representatives of the new generation of national surfing who have been making waves at the start of the MEO Surf League season will also be in action. Names such as Maria Salgado, Jaime Veselko and João Maria Mendonça were a constant presence in the final rounds of the first stages of the season and promise to make a difference in the rankings that define the national surfing champions.

João Mendonça, number 3 in the men’s ranking of the MEO Surf League 2025
“I’m going to try to approach the Ericeira stage in the same way as the previous two stages, trying to be as focused as possible to surf. Ribeira d’Ilhas is a place of good memories, where I got my first 3rd place in the MEO Surf League. I’ve been happy in Ribeira d’Ilhas, and I’ve had several championships with good waves. It’s a wave that’s a little different from the others, because you have to know how to surf it. That’s why I’m very motivated for this stage.”

Maria Salgado, number 3 in the women’s ranking of the MEO Surf League 2025
“After the stages in Porto and Matosinhos, where I reached the final, I’m going to approach the Ericeira stage very excited. I like surfing there, and Ribeira d’Ilhas is a place I have good memories of, because it usually has good waves, and I’ve also had good results. I want to give it my all and have fun as always.”

Jaime Veselko, number 9 in the MEO Surf League 2025 men’s ranking
“I got a good result in the last stage, in Porto and Matosinhos. So now I want another good result in Ericeira. That’s my goal. It’s going to be a very difficult stage, like all the others, but the wave in Ribeira d’Ilhas is a good and predictable wave, which makes it even harder to get a good result. However, the focus is the same: to do my best surfing, take advantage of the waves that can be very fun and, in the end, get the best result possible.”

The Jerónimo Martins Group is, for the seventh consecutive year, the sustainability partner of the MEO Surf League. Through awareness-raising and beach cleaning actions, this partnership has allowed, over the years, to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and the regeneration of ecosystems. The Jerónimo Martins Group has several publications dedicated to sustainability. The highlight is Be The Story, a project that aims to tell stories that make an impact, inspire and make people reflect on topics such as the responsible use of plastic, reducing food waste and promoting healthy habits.

In terms of parallel awards, the Allianz Ericeira Pro will include Prio Best Wave (best wave of the stage), Bom Petisco Girls Score (best score exclusively dedicated to women), Waversby Round (best sports performance in round 3), the traditional competition for the best maneuver in the Expression Session and Ericeira Best Surfer, which recognizes the best local surfers.

The Allianz Ericeira Pro also continues the race for Wildcards for the Quiksilver Fest, a highly prestigious international competition held in France and which this year will feature the best ranked surfer from the MEO Surf League at the invitation of Quiksilver.
