Portuguese Frederico Morais defeated Azores Airlines Pro, from the surf qualifying circuit, today, by taking the Australian Mitch Crews in the final of the Azorean island of São Miguel.
‘Kikas’, 30th in qualifying rankings, came in at 15.93 points against 6.1 from the Australian, ensuring the second victory of the year at the circuit after a 3,000 point win at Pro Santa Cruz, half of the championship that ended today.
This was the third QS triumph for the Cascais surfer who had already beaten Martinique Pro in 2016, the year he reached the Hawaiian Pro and Vans World Cup finals.
On the world circuit, Frederico Morais’s best result was second place at the Corona Open J-Bay in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, in 2017.
On the way to the final, ‘Kikas’ eliminated Frenchman Gatien Delahaye in the semi-finals, American Jake Marshall in the quarterfinals and Australian Jackson Baker in the fifth round.
Vasco Ribeiro, 69th in the hierarchy, also reached the eighth, when he was eliminated by Miguel Pupo, accounting for 10.83 points, against 12.27 of the Brazilian.
