Free Combus transport will cover the entire municipality of Oeiras

The Oeiras City Council, in the Lisbon district, intends to extend Combus road transport, currently free of charge, to the entire municipality by the end of the year, benefiting about 100,000 people, the municipality announced today.

In a statement, the municipality notes that this extension “will be phased in”, starting in February with the introduction of Combus transport in the towns of Oeiras, Paço de Arcos and Caxias, which will be at least free during 2020.

“The free buses will arrive in Oeiras, Paço de Arcos and Caxias as of February 3 and the extension to the rest of the territory will be done in stages, followed by the parishes of Carnaxide and Queijas and, finally, Barcarena and Porto Salvo “, explains the Câmara de Oeiras.

The municipality of Oeiras, chaired by Isaltino Morais, foresees an investment in this measure of two million euros, estimating that it will benefit around 100 thousand people.

The Combus transport service is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Oeiras and the carrier Vimeca, having been inaugurated in June 2007 and suspended in February 2014, in the previous municipal term, chaired by the independent Paulo Vistas.

The circulation of these buses resumed in June 2018, with routes in the towns of Algés, Cruz Quebrada-Dafundo and Linda-a-Velha.

According to the Chamber, “to date, more than 75 thousand passengers have used these buses”.
