Parish of Santo António, Lisbon celebrates International Women’s Day with literary offer

offers 696 books on the 232 benches of the Parish gardens

The Parish of Santo António – Lisbon, with the support of Penguin Random House – Grupo Editorial, will celebrate International Women’s Day with a unique and original initiative of the literary offer.

The aim of this campaign is to reinforce the idea that literature written by women is not a literary genre, it is literature. The initiative aims to celebrate women and give everyone the opportunity to enjoy excellent works by authors in various public places in the Parish.

On March 8th, at 8:30 am, on Avenida da Liberdade, next to Cinema São Jorge, the President of the Parish of Santo António, Vasco Morgado, the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Lisbon, Diogo Moura and the author’s Maria Isaac, Helena Magalhães, Filipa Fonseca Silva and Maria Francisca Gama, will be present to start the celebrations of International Women’s Day.

The initiative will offer a total of 696 books. The books will be available at 232 benches in our green spaces, namely on Avenida da Liberdade, Jardim Alfredo Keil in Praça da Alegria, Jardim Camilo Castelo Branco, Jardim do Torel and Jardim Marcelino Mesquita in Praça das Amoreiras.

Each bank will have physical books that first-comers can take home. In addition, in each bank, there will be a poster with a QRCode that will allow people to receive at home, free of charge, one of the 464 books we have to offer.

The President of the Parish of Santo António, Vasco Morgado, recalls that “every year we celebrate the date in a unique and original way, with something that has not been done before, so this year we decided to give the stage to literature”.
