Freight forwarders want to be consulted on post-Covid European funds 19

APAT says it's time to take projects out of the “drawer”

The Portuguese Freight Forwarders Association (APAT) welcomes the European Union’s announcement to launch a € 750 billion package and to inaugurate a new generation, more supportive and global, more digital and more environmentally friendly, but alert that the Portuguese Government must consult all interested entities and that this is an opportunity to take projects out of the “drawer”, postponed due to lack of funds.

So that these funds are not lost, we ask that all interested entities be consulted, remembering that we lack adequate infrastructure, deficiencies that, for many years, freight forwarders have been complaining and warning”, says António Nabo Martins, president executive of APAT, whose members represent 1 per cent of the national GDP. “This is a good time to re-evaluate several studies and investments placed in the“ drawer ”for lack of funds. We are afraid that we will lose sight of again, road/rail/sea accessibility, air terminals, investment in the railroad, logistics parks, dry ports and safe parks ”, he concludes.

APAT considers that the State has the capacity to create solutions and provide thousands of unemployed people with the possibility of returning to active life with the certainty of having adequate training to the new reality.

Any crisis allows lessons to be learned and, with this announcement, the EU has shown that it has learned lessons and that it will make changes. We believe that a new era will open, for which we ask for more investment in better connectivity; strong support in technology and industry and an economy based on information (date) ”, recalls Nabo Martins. “Certainly, Portuguese freight forwarders will be part of this new era, starting now to work on proposals to access the announced funds“.
