French group bets (and enters) on wines in Portugal

The Roullier group was established in 1959 and is currently one of the world’s leading agrochemical groups and a leader in plant and animal nutrition.

The French group Roullier had a majority stake in Falua – Sociedade de Vinhos S.A., which, in turn, belonged to the Gestvinus group of the well-known João Portugal Ramos.

Although it has been present in Portugal since 1994, the Roullier group decided to enter into the wine business to acquire “agricultural land that can serve as a testimony to the fertilization solutions already advocated by the group”.

“At Falua, in addition to testing our fertilizer solutions, we believe we can enhance the quality that is already associated with Portuguese wines, reinforcing the growth that the Tejo region has been presenting in recent years,” explained Rui Rosa, Director General of the Roullier group in Portugal.

It should be noted that Falua’s vineyards are located in the Tejo region in a total of 65 hectares of own vineyard and direct management of 250 more. In 2017 alone, the company reached the milestone of 5.5 million bottles.
