From Atomic to release debut album “Deliverance” in March by Lux Records

From Atomic are a band that was born in Coimbra in 2018, due to the idea of Alberto Ferraz challenging Sofia Leonor to do something together, to which he later joined Márcio Paranhos, thus forming the ‘atomic’ nucleus.

Their sound reflects influences from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, The Cure, DIIV, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Joy Division, The Raveonettes or Sonic Youth, seeking much of the British ‘post punk’ of the 80s , but also something of the ‘indie noise’ of the following decade.

However, when listening to From Atomic we find a sound with its own brand, raw but firmly supported by pop melodies.

The urgency of the words with which Sofia Leonor (voice and bass) challenges us, exposes the minimalist narrative that fuses in the noisy melodies of Alberto Ferraz (guitar). The cycle closes with an addictive and ferocious rhythmic foundation, in charge of Márcio Paranhos (drums), which frames an atmosphere that is both black and luminous.

In May 2018 they released “Heaven´s Bless”, a track that aroused curiosity in the national music scene. It gained space on radio stations such as RUC and Antena 3, was included in the collection “A date with Gliding Barnacles” (Lux Records) and integrated in the CD Novos Talentos FNAC 2019.

On March 27, 2020, the release of their first album Deliverance will be released, by Conimbricense Lux Records. Recorded and produced in the Blue House studios by Henrique Toscano and João Silva, it has mixing and mastering by João Rui, with collaboration on a track by Rui Maia (X-Wife, Mirror People).

In the words of From Atomic, Deliverance presents itself as a descent to the depths inherent to the process of conceiving identity. Timeless, words respond to the uncontrollable urge to try to understand how to feel and accept the world.

In exposing the weaknesses that torment us so much, we dare to believe that what surrounds us may not be (entirely) real. A feeling of alienation runs through the veins of each verse and measure.

The conflict is palpable as we descend into this darkness, but the representation of what defines us, collapses in the will to feel that there is a choice, that we can somehow change our nature.

The impetus that circumscribes this first album is a constant confrontation with our reflection and instigates the past to sigh in the ear, while striking the memories that run through our hands.
