FST Lisboa launches two new prototypes with the support of Novabase
The Formula Student Lisboa team from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) presented, on May 29, two new competition cars, the FST10e and the FST10d, with the support of Novabase.
The FST 10e is the team’s seventh electric prototype and reaches a top speed of 130 km / h with four AC electric motors with electronic differential. It also has the first battery made in composites with LiCoO2 cells (lithium-cobalt) and a total capacity of 7.6 kWh.
The big news this year is the FST 10d, the first autonomous prototype of the FST. The development project lasted about two years and aimed to enable the development and integration of solutions for the new performance, processing and perception systems for the next generation of cars from FST Lisboa. The vehicle reaches a power of 65 kW (88 hp) and also has a processing unit to run all the perception, estimation, planning and control algorithms.
Both cars will represent IST at the Circuit de Catalunya in Montemeló, Spain, on the 2nd to the 8th of August and in the biggest Formula Student competition, the Hockenheim Circuit, on the 16th to the 22nd of August in Germany.
For André Correia, team leader of FST Lisboa, “The FST10e is the seventh electric prototype of the team, and is the car with the best dynamic performance to date. The FST10d aims to end all dynamic events in a Formula Student Driverless competition and will represent the team for the first time in the Driverless category at Formula Student Spain and Formula Student Germany, in the summer of 2021. It will be a great pride to represent Portugal, Instituto Superi or Técnico and our sponsors in international competitions”.
For Novabase executive director, María Gil, “Novabase has been an official sponsor of FST Lisboa since 2010. It is very gratifying for us to follow the evolution of this project over the years, because this initiative combines technology, innovation and talent. And this has also been the success formula of N ovabase for over 30 years. What this team has demonstrated, this year more than ever, is that the ability to adapt to new contexts is a key element for success and, therefore, we are confident that once again they will have an excellent performance in the most important competitions. in the world ranking of Formula Student.”
FST Lisboa is made up of 60 students from six different courses. The team was created in 2001, with the development of the first prototype and currently has 10 models built. The support of Novabase, started in 2010, allowed to boost the project’s growth and enabled the development of the first prototype with electric motor and now the first autonomous prototype.
